Rain Barrel Project and Rain Harvesting.

Communities with lowland and storm drain issues benefit from rain barrels attached to the guttering system of their home.  The collection of rain water to use for gardening, auto cleaning, or any project but drinking water can be projected to positively benefit a homeowner.

The rain barrel project in New Douglas will offer homeowners and opportunity to learn about rain harvesting and building a rain barrel for $10.00.  Each rain barrel is valued at between $75.00 - $100.00.  Madison County Planning and Development is providing a reimburseable grant to New Douglas Township for 25 rain barrels for township residents who own their homes.  The homeowner will complete an application for the rain barrel, pay the $10.00 fee for the rain barrel and agree to participate in an education program on rain harvesting and management of their rain barrel and a session to build the rain barrel with all the parts of the barrel provided as part of the program.  The applicant must attend both the education program on rain harvesting and the rain barrel building session in order to receive the rain barrel and agree to a home visit to ensure that the rain barrel is properly attached to the home guttering system and set up properly to collect rain water.

Applications are linked from this page or can be obtained by calling the New Douglas Township RexPlex Office and leave a message with your name and phone number and rain barrel info needed in your message.  An application will be mailed or delivered to you.  217-456-6132.  Submit your applications to New Douglas Community Garden P.O.
