Tomato Seeds Just Jumped Out of the Tray

With a lot of encouragement and surprise, the tomato seeds I planted for the garden on February 10th to demonstrate the use of recycled containers as seed planters have just jumped out of the seed starting medium and are looking for the sun. We are all looking for sun but the little twin leaves of the first two plantings are shedding the seed coating and hoping for growth. Several other varieties of tomatoes will be planted by the end of the weekend as well as several pepper varieties. So far we have Rutgers, Ace Heirloom 55, and Bush Beefsteak planted. The next will be Black Krim, Paul Robeson Heirloom, and a couple varieties of cherry tomatoes. J.U.L.I.E. has been contacted to mark the potential site of the garden before we lay down plastic to kill the grass and then the initial plowing of the garden space. With the grant application due by March 26th, we will have to wait until it has been approved to move further but the seeds will hopefully turn into healthy plants that will populate the garden. More to come...
