New Douglas Village Market is Open for Business on Thursday weekly 4 - 7 pm

StartFragment

Still tired today from the opening of the market and garden yesterday so was happy it rained or I would have been out replanting the tomatoes that have been drowned out and started to mulch all the new fruit trees. The opening of the garden and market went well yesterday and I hope in the near future that we have more folks joining us on Thursdays from 4 - 7 for the great beef, pork, chicken, eggs, fruit, bakery items, and so much more and there is still room for vendors to join the market at $18 a month. Items locally grown or produced are welcome as well as some resellers like our local Tupperware representatives. There is room for other crafts and I have vendors who will be bringing sweet corn, apples, peaches, blackberries, cider and more as the season progresses. We have door prizes that were not given away this week so we will be drawing again next week and the concession stand just a few steps south of the market site in the Park Pavilion has a brand new popcorn machine and is selling hot dogs, chips, and cold drinks and will be adding new items weekly so you can picnic after you shop. Our pecan man from Sorento will be back again for a week or two as he is beginning to run low on whole and pieced pecans at $5 a pound. As residents get used to the market being open every Thursday, we hope to see more people from around the area dropping by to take advantage of the great locally produced food and craft items and tell their friends to come see us and picnic next to the ball park - where games will be scheduled in the near future.

June 9th Jim Wilson from Bond County Bluebird Society will be in house at 6 p.m. to Introduce Bluebirds along with nesting boxes for sale and education materials. The market will be giving each participant a copy of the bluebird house building plans that evening. Our Master Gardener will be back to answer questions about summer gardening on June 23rd and she sure enjoyed sharing her knowledge with those who stopped to see her.. thanks Helen King for your service to the market and garden.

So .. now you know why you haven't been reading as much on here in the last week or so ... the garden is growing and the market is open so I can smile widely and look for new and exciting visitors to our project.
